Stamp Books: Classics
Celebrating much-loved literary classics from the 17th century to the start of the first world war.
We’ve reimagined 42 influential classic books as a series of oversized postage stamps beginning with Miguel de Cervantes’s Don Quixote, a book which is often described as the first modern novel and was once voted by authors as the 'most meaningful book of all time’ and closing with Ford Maddox Ford’s The Good Soldier, published at the beginning of the first world war and increasingly cited as an early example of modernism.
Other classics include Gulliver's Travels by Jonathan Swift, Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, Frankenstein by Mary Shelley, Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë, Great Expectations by Charles Dickens, Little Women by Louisa May Alcott, The Moonstone by Wilkie Collins, War and Peace by Tolstoy, The Portrait of a Lady by Henry James, Tess of the d’Urbervilles by Thomas Hardy, The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman, Dracula by Bram Stoker, The House of Mirth by Edith Wharton and The Rainbow by D.H. Lawrence.
Each stamp features a graphic inspired by the book and the date of publication (in book form).
