Movie Director Solar System - Original Open Edition

Just like the planets orbit the sun, our new Movie Director Solar System print maps out the massive pull and influence directors such as Hitchcock, Orson Welles and Stanley Kubrick have had on each other, their contemporaries and directors that followed them. 

Alfred Hitchcock, who’s influence stretches back almost 100 years is at the centre of our solar system. He is closely orbited by Orson Welles and other directors from the golden age of Hollywood including Howard Hawks, Billy Wilder, Victor Fleming, Robert Wise, Vincente Minnelli and John Ford.

Orbiting close by are the German expressionists F. W. Murnau, Fritz Lang and Robert Wiene, the surealist Luis Buñuel, the French impressionist Jean Renoir, the Italian neorealist Roberto Rossellini and the influential French New Wave directors François Truffaut and Jean-Luc Godard. 

Further out in our movie making universe are the American New Wave directors Martin Scorsese, Francis Ford Coppola and Robert Altman and the New German Cinema director's Rainer Werner Fassbinder, Werner Herzog and Wim Wenders. 

Deeper into space are the giants Steven Spielberg, George Lucas and James Cameron who cut their film making teeth in the late 70s and 80s, along with auteurs Spike Lee, Richard Linklater and Quentin Tarantino who burst onto the indie scene in the late 80s and early 90s with generation-defining films.  

Stylish puzzle box masters Christoper Nolan and David Fincher are on one edge of our universe alongside monster-masters Peter Jackson and Guillermo del Toro and further round on the other edge are some of our favourite directors who have transitioned from indie films to blockbusters including Sofia Coppola, Ryan Coogler, Chloé Zhao, Greta Gerwig.

The pioneer David Lynch cuts a solitary path across the universe as a trailblazing comet making his own way in the world.
