Lost Destination: Fylingdales

Regular price £35.00

Fylingdales RAF radar base was built in 1962 on Snod Hill in the North Yorkshire Moors. It originally comprised of three large ‘golf balls’ or radomes, each measuring 40 metres in diameter, before being replaced by new structures in 1989-1992. The station has been the subject of many conspiracy theories, UFO sightings and much controversy due to its role in the US National Missile Defense programme. Its motto ‘vigilamus’ means ‘we are watching’.

Part of our Lost Destination series of prints which takes inspiration from the iconic travel posters of the first half of the 20th century. They celebrate the unique but often forgotten beauty of buildings that in their heyday were destinations in their own right, but have since been either immersed in the everyday or demolished.
